"Bruin" - Apricot c1905

This dear old fellow comes with lots of provenance and was truly loved in his day. "Bruin" was the childhood toy of Marguerite Eleanor Blakiston, born on 13 January 1900. After Marguerite's death in 1981 ownership of the bear passed under her Will to her companion Dulcie Mary Hill. At some time between 1986 and 1989 Dulcie gifted the bear to James Moffat Rowland who in turn gave the bear to his daughter in 2006. Marguerite believed the bear was given to her on her first birthday but, as he dates c1905, she would have received him as a small child. Bruin visited the Antiques Roadshow in 2011.

There is a lot of documentation, complete probate copies of both the original owner's Will and also of the lady she bequeathed him to, Marriage/Birth certificates and a valuation by David Lay auctioneers dated 1987. Also he comes with a brochure from the Antiques Roadshow where he was seen by Hilary Kay.

Bruin is a c1905 apricot five claw Steiff who retains his tiny blank button (although this is now rusty). He is in strong condition with overall wear to the mohair, a small repair on the back and recovered pads. There is a red stain on the back of one foot and the sagging has shifted in his arms. There is a darkened area on the left wrist. Bruin was sold at auction a few years ago and wore his brown ribbon - he has since been given a wonderful pair of dungarees! He has not been touched in any way since being purchased at auction and has been in a private collection. Bruin is a wonderful old boy who measures just under 16" tall
