Rare Crämer Musical Clown

Rare Crämer Musical Clown
A very rare musical teddy clown by Eduard Crämer c1929. This absolute jewel of a bear is not only a rare clown teddy but he also plays the most beautiful music when his head is tilted back and forth. His soft tri-coloured mohair is golden, green and pink. with no noticeable mohair loss, just a little fading. All his felt pads are original without damage or repairs and he is in totally original condition with glass eyes, stitched nose and little red felt tongue. A truly magnificent example made by one of the most prestigious German toy makers and measuring a grand 21" (53cm) tall

Eduard Crämer began producing toys around 1885 after taking over a factory from his father-in-law. During the teddy bear boom of 1905, the company was soon creating soft toy versions made out of fine quality mohair. This proved to be a great success and the firm quickly expanded. As with all toy companies, Crämer suffered the effects of WW1 but was soon back in production after the war. By the 1920s, new designs were offered and by the end of the decade Crämer was using short and long mohair plush in "fashionable" colours such as gold, pink, green, orange and lilac! Colourful teddy clowns with a music mechanism were introduced into the program in 1929. It is extremely hard to find examples today, particularly in original condition and Crämer's wonderful creations are much sought-after by collectors the world over.
