Coaster Ted c1910

Coaster Ted c1910
Very rare early version of an Omega Coaster teddy bear dating to pre 1911

James S. Renvoize Ltd. (later the British United Toy Manufacturing Co. Ltd/Omega) Coaster Teddy Bear seated on an eccentric wooden wheeled chassis. He has the wonderful face of the earlier Omega bears with painted-back glass eyes, triangular head, very pointy nose and horizontal nose stitching. He now lacks his mouth stitching and has over all wear and balding to the mohair but remains in strong condition. When pulled along, ted rows back and forth, (the movement isn't as smooth as it would have been over a century ago and the metal chassis is tarnished). A lovely old character, measuring 11.5" long and 10" tall. Wheels stamped BRITISH MAKE J.R.

James S. Renvoize Ltd., changed their name to the British Manufacturing Co. Ltd in 1911. They were originally founded in 1894 principly as a lead soldier manufacturer. It was not until the 1st World War that they started to use the trademark Omega. This example is one of the very first Coaster bears produced, making him extra special.
