Harwin Monkey c1915

Harwin Monkey c1915
We have so rarely seen these British monkeys made by Harwin around 1915. A larger example sold at Christies in London in 2006 but they are exceptionally rare to find. This dear fellow has the typical painted eyebrows Harwin also used on their dolls. He has a good covering of cream mohair with some small holes to the muzzle and wear to the felt hands and feet. Monkey has original boot button eyes and he is fully jointed with a non-working internal squeaker. Please enquire for more details on the fabulous chap who measures 14.5" tall

Harwin & Co was established in North London by G W Harwin in 1914. After the ban on the import of German goods, Harwin designed a series of "Ally" bears in 1916 dressed as mascots in uniforms of Allied Forces of World War 1. They also produced other animals and felt dolls from 1914 onwards. The company closed around 1930, affected by the post-War depression.
