Rare Cream Petsy
|
This incredibly rare bear is back with us for rehoming after spending the past 7 years in a private collection
The Petsy bear of 1928 is usually instantly recognisable by the double head seam, kapok stuffing and large, wire-framed poseable ears. Eyes might be piercing blue or brown and black glass and the mohair is long and tipped. This wonderful and extremely rare example has the typical central head seam but is not tipped and never was. Also interesting is the woodwool stuffing rather than the usual kapok. It is possible this design was in fact registered earlier. It is certainly known that Steiff registered a total of four bear head patterns in 1927, with three and four piece head seams including one for "Baby Bear". It is also known that some special teddies were made for workers or family members, or as display pieces and were perhaps never put into production. This example may well have been a proto-type. This adorable Petsy is one of the most interesting examples we have ever had the pleasure of offering for sale and measures just 11.5" tall
