"Big Ted" Provenance

Big Ted was first sold by us in 2008 and he has been in a private collection since that time. Big Ted was given to his original owner, Tommy Davies of Bootle in Merseyside, by his Uncle Ally (Albert). Tommy was born in 1929, the youngest of three children, having two sisters called Edna and Dorothy. Sadly, Tommy had a short life as the tug he worked on (called Moose) was involved in an accident on the river Mersey and his life was cut short at just 16 years old. Big Ted was passed on to Dorothy and then, eventually, to her daughter Sylvia Roles.

Big Ted is accompanied by two original framed photographs of himself and Tommy as well as copy newspaper articles about the tragic accident and three other photos of Tommy and family. The fabulous, finely decorated three piece sailor suit was given to Big Ted by his last owner and also includes a hat. Ted himself has some overall wear, but he remains in strong condition. The feet now expose the wood wool on the edges and he has a small repair to one ankle. His stuffing has shifted in places, especially the upper arms. This wonderful chap retains his FF button in ear and measures a huge 28" tall.
